D. H. Lawrence Heritage Centre was formally known as the Durban House Heritage Centre and is the sister site of the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum in Eastwood, near Nottingham. Both sites collectively go under the name of D.H. Lawrence Heritage. The D.H. Lawrence Heritage Centre contains an exhibition on the social history of Eastwood during the time that the writer lived there, including information on the educational system, mining, trams, retail along with D.H. Lawrence and the people that were affiliated with him. In addition there is an art gallery, a bistro, conference rooms, civil wedding, funeral, birthday and education facilities. The heritage site has events running all year round which can be found on the D.H. Lawrence Heritage's Facebook page. == The Exhibition == The exhibition puts D. H. Lawrence's life into the context of its time and place. It contains a recreation of a Victorian school room, grocery shop, history of Eastwood’s Tram lines and a mock up mine (visitors are invited to crawl through); pictures and descriptions of mining life in the area; a Purdy (mining) lamp; a Lady Chatterley area (with the original book that was used during the Penguin trial showing the underlined 'obscene' passages.
